The baucher or hanging cheek bit as they are sometimes called is similar to a cross between a full cheek and an eggbutt. This cheek style is one of the most misunderstood as many belive it is a ‘leverage’ bit. This however is not the case.  The baucher is desinged to “hang” from the bridle thereby minimizing the pressure on the tongue while the bit is not engaged. There are no lower leverage points to create poll pressure with this style of bit. It is a great design for sensitive horses or those who have not learned to “carry” the bit as yet.
